Don't Believe 'All or Nothing'

At the beginning of last year, I got really stuck in the middle stages of my business. I had some really great ideas and opportunities but I just kept passing them up. It was almost like I was paralyzed by fear and doubt.

If that's where you are now, I'm sure you know it does not feel good...

"Fear tends to argue both sides of the coin, leaving you absolutely no room to stand. Here are two of the complete opposite things it will tell you: 'Don’t chase your dream at all.' And, 'If you chase your dream, you have to do it all at once.' Do you see the absurdity of that? 'Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t do it!' fear screams. Then, when you ignore those cries, fear changes its tactic and screams, 'Do it all at once! Do it all at once!' Both of those statements are lies." -Jon Acuff, Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average and Do Work That Matters Book

I loved every part of the above book (go buy it) but this part especially stuck with me. I either believed I couldn't do the things I wanted to or I believed that I had to do them all right away and perfectly. I let so much time pass without doing anything at all. Now I'm kicking myself for not just getting started.

This "all or nothing" mentality is so easy to believe, but don't buy into it.

Don't give up just because you aren't where you want to be yet.

Don't quit just because your results aren't coming as quickly as someone else's.

Don't put off starting just because there's a chance you could mess up a little along the way.

Give yourself the chance to grow and keep taking the right next step, even if it's a small one.

You're going to be great.

xo, Laurie
